why is the site named "turtle" photo? yes, it's about photos. at least that part makes sense, to most people. as for the turtle, this is for your to interpret. just as the photos are for your interpretation, so is the name.
- is this a "photo a day" photoblog? -- no. some days will feature more photographs, some days less, some days none, sometimes none for weeks at a time, and sometimes, weeks worth of photos in a day.
- why are some images larger than others? -- images are resized from the original more on the basis of width, than overall dimensions.
- I can't fit some of the photos in my screen. they are too big! -- that isn't a question but I'll answer it anyway. the site was designed with higher resolution in mind in hopes that some day, people would use it. however, the site does feature slightly downsized portrait images - only 700px wide, whereas landscapes are 800px width. granted, even at a downsized width, the full area of portrait images remains much larger.
- why doesn't ISO show up for most/all images? -- yeah, I noticed this little bug in the exif data of my camera a long time ago but didn't think much of it. seems that my reliable D70 doesn't really like telling me what ISO I used in the exif, so that's fine, it's a good camera, I can make compromises. I pretty much exclusively use 200-400 ISO outdoors, and 640-800 ISO indoors. sometimes up to 1600 in very low light, and 200-400 at night long exposures.
- what can I do to get ISO on future images? -- funny you should mention that. you see, I'm a poor college student. I don't have the funds to correct such a situation. should it be corrected, this would require access to a Canon 5D. you see, I've been eyeing this camera for some time, and watching the price slowly drop. I have also been waiting for someone to just, give me one. that would be a lot easier, and I hear that it does record ISO in its exif data. at least, more reliably than my slightly rebellious D70. so - in answer to your question, which really was my question, posed on behalf of you, since I am the one who put all this text here on this website, and in fact the reader cannot actually write the website, if one wishes to see ISO in future images, one can donate the aforementioned camera. donations are handled through our donation department, contact via my email, listed in the about page. update (from may, 2009) : seems that someone, or perhaps a multiple of people, may have read this. now using a d700 - as some may acutely presume, ten times better than my previous photographic equipment. iso does, indeed, show, now, and the above figures have been rendered incorrect largely due to the amazing sensitivity of a d700.
- where were your photos taken? -- all over! earlier photos (from january 2008 or so) are from prague, petra, and throughout israel. from february through may, they're mostly in oman (muscat, nizwa, salalah, sur, and throughout), with some scattered in abu dhabi, sharjah, dubai, and qatar (doha). in summer '08 they're mostly around western europe and israel. more are from in america; some seattle, maine, and massachusetts. many more recent summer 2009 photos are in israel, upper and lower egypt, petra jordan, and the northeast usa. some late 2009 photos are from the caribbean.
- where are you from? -- maine.
- where do you live? -- maine. |
